TURKISH SCIENTIST TOOK HIS PLACE IN THE MEDICAL SCIENCE LITERATURE WITH THE TREATMENT OF URINARY TRACT WHICH METHOD HE DEVELOPED
Assoc. Dr. Ozan Bozkurt, Lecturer of Urology Department of Faculty of Medicine of Dokuz Eylul University (DEÜ) took his place in the world medical literature with the tissue transplantation method he developed by transplanting the part taken from the mouth to the bladder neck.
Assoc. Dr. Ozan Bozkurt, Lecturer of Urology Department of Faculty of Medicine of Dokuz Eylul University (DEÜ) developed a method for the treatment of urethral stenosis (stenosis of the urinary tract) resulting from prostate surgery, catheter use, trauma or falling and causing burning, pain and difficulty during urination.
Bozkurt and his team, who opening the canal bu transferring the piece from the mouth to the bladder neck, have operated on 7 patients with this method in 2 years and obtained positive results from all of them.
Bozkurt’s treatment method, which called the technique he developed “Tissue Transplantation Method in Urethra Stenosis”, was published in the internationally respected scientific journal “Urologia Internationalis” and announced to the world.
POSITIVE RESULTS OBTAINED
Ozan Bozkurt said that they have worked on bladder neck strictures, also called bladder neck, especially after prostate surgeries.
Stating that they take tissue from the mouth according to the length of the area where the stenosis is experienced, Bozkurt explained the method as; “We transplant the part of tissue we take from the cheek to the diseased area. By this means, we expand the narrow segment. The method of tissue transplantation has actually been applied before. The urinary canal consists of the anterior and posterior parts and it is transplanted for the anterior part. We wanted to apply this method in the posterior part as well. When we had obtained positive results from the patients, we continued the treatment method”
Bozkurt pointed out that urinary tract stenosis is sometimes confused with the prostate and that the problem was solved by tissue transplantation that without ever repeating.
Bozkurt said that “When urinary tract stenosis develops, the quality of life of patients is very affected. Problems such as frequent urge to go to the toilet, inability to do so, and urinary tract infection are experienced. We solve the problem by transplanting tissue from the mouth to that area”, pointing out that the disease develops without any reason in one-third of the cases.
Assoc. Dr. Bozkurt states that after the transplantation, the patient rests in the hospital for 3-4 days and is discharged later.
Expressing that he is happy that his work as a Turkish doctor is appreciated at the international level, Bozkurt said, “Whatever treament methods are applied in the world, also applied in Turkey as well. These developments are of great importance in terms of health tourism. I believe that we will see the success of these studies better from now on.”
