The Department of Cardiology is a clinic that has been serving at the standards of developed countries within the body of Dokuz Eylul University Hospital since its establishment in 1994. It has expanded its competent academic staff in the field of cardiology over the years and renewed its infrastructure in line with its needs, and has always taken its place at the forefront throughout the country with the services it provides in diagnosis and treatment.

Polyclinic Services

Approximately 200 patients are treated daily with two outpatient clinics and out-of-hours outpatient services of faculty members. In addition, heart failure and arrhythmia outpatient clinics serve under the supervision of relevant faculty members.

Diagnostic and Interventional Treatment Procedures

In the Echocardiography unit, which consists of two units, diagnostic transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography examinations, color Doppler, stress and contrast echocardiography applications are performed. Heart failure, valve diseases, congenital heart diseases are diagnosed.

Patients referred from outpatient clinics with a pre-diagnosis of coronary artery disease in the exercise test unit are served with the renewed equipment this year. In most of the patients, the stress test can be performed on the same day.

In the Holter laboratory, 24-hour rhythm and blood pressure Holter devices are used for the diagnosis of arrhythmia and hypertension. At the end of 24 hours, the holter devices are removed and the data is uploaded to the computer environment and analysis results are given in a short time.

Our department has 2 coronary angiography and 1 electrophysiology laboratories. Balloon angioplasty and stent implantation, which are the interventional treatment methods of coronary artery disease, are routinely and intensively applied. In addition, mitral balloon angioplasty and pulmonary balloon angioplasty in the treatment of mitral stenosis and pulmonary valve stenosis; Mitraclip method, which has recently been applied in the world, is applied in mitral regurgitation disease. Our department is a clinic where Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), which was developed recently in the world for aortic valve disease and started to be applied for high-risk patients for surgical operation, is also frequently performed. It is the leading interventional treatment center not only for the Aegean region but also for our country in TAVR procedure.

In the electrophysiology laboratory, the most up-to-date treatment methods such as radiofrequency and cryoablation are applied for patients who are diagnosed with atrial or ventricular arrhythmia and require interventional treatment. In addition to routine pacemaker implantation, shock-capable pacemaker (ICD) implantation and biventricular pacemaker (CRT) implantation, which are included in the treatment of advanced heart failure, are also performed.

Our Cardiology Department continues to be one of the leading Cardiology centers in our country, where the current diagnosis and treatment of all kinds of diseases in the field of Cardiology are carried out in a short time under the leadership of a competent academic staff.
