The Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology has been training Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology specialists since 1997 and is actively involved in the undergraduate education program of the Faculty of Medicine. In addition to the educational studies that make up the bulk of the activity of the Department, research, especially thesis studies, is carried out, and national and international articles are published.
In addition to education, the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology also provides outpatient and inpatient treatment and health services.
HIV/AIDS and Diabetic Foot Infections Polyclinic is held on Tuesdays, Hepatitis Polyclinic on Wednesdays, and Prosthetic Infection Polyclinic on Thursdays. Private polyclinics are carried out under the consultancy of our faculty members on related issues, and information and counseling services are also provided here as well as patient diagnosis and treatment.
Faculty members and specialists of our department are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of all infectious diseases, and they have also received training in Clinical Microbiology due to the nature of our specialty. In addition, our instructors have specialized and gained experience in subjects such as diabetic foot infections, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections, orthopedic prosthetic infections, chronic hepatitis, adult vaccination, infections in individuals with organ transplants and intensive care units, and infections of patients in hematology-oncology clinics.
We have a 15-bed service and diagnosis and treatment are applied to patients hospitalized from the emergency or polyclinic. Consultation services are provided to all other inpatient units and the emergency department of the hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In accordance with the relevant regulation, the Hospital Infection Control Committee is managed by certified instructors of our Department. The Infection Control Committee, which is an obligatory unit in the hospital structure, works directly under the chief physician’s office and it takes an active role in issues such as monitoring the infections that develop in the hospital, extracts statistical data, taking control measures, and for this, continuous training of personnel, development of policies regarding the use of antimicrobials, sterilization disinfection procedures, hospital cleaning, laundry issues, proper washing, and waste management.
