Our medical department, which examines female and male urinary tracts and reproductive organs and examines diseases in these territories, is the Urology department. After six years of medical faculty, one is specialized in urology after 5 years of residency, which is qualified with the Specialization in Medicine Exam. Urological patient diagnosis, treatment and care services in Dokuz Eylul University Hospital are carried out by the Department of Urology Dokuz Eylul University. Department of Urology has increased its equipment to serve in every field of urology since 1983. There are seven faculty members and ten research assistants in Dokuz Eylul University Department of Urology. In addition to all advanced diagnostic facilities, the urology department has an advanced andrology laboratory, urodynamics laboratory, lithotripsy machines and three operating rooms where endourological, laparoscopic and open operations are performed in the central operating room.

In our department; the following services are provided by our doctors who are equipped with up-to-date academic knowledge on urological issues:

General: In the urology department, services including the diagnosis and treatment of health problems such as urinary tract infections, stone diseases, prostate diseases and voiding disorders, which are among the most common diseases in adults, are provided.

Endourology: Endourological applications generally include all endoscopic surgeries known as closed urological surgeries. Closed surgeries of the urethra, prostate and bladder are routinely performed. Both diagnostic and therapeutic ureterorenoscopies constitute an important part of endoscopic applications. High success is achieved in the treatment of stone disease with various intra-body lithotritize methods (endoscopic (retrograde intrarenal surgery, rigid, flexible ureterorenoscope and percutaneous techniques).

Urooncology: Urooncological applications include the diagnosis and treatment of urological cancers. In our hospital, all major urological cancer surgeries are performed with successful results in terms of both disease control and quality of life. Not only surgery of urological cancers, but also medical and supportive treatments, especially chemotherapy and immunotherapy, are performed.

Andrology: Andrology discipline deals with two major disease groups in men. One of them is the diagnosis and treatment of infertility problems in men. In addition to the direct diagnosis and treatment of common causes of infertility, joint studies are carried out with the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic. During the application of assisted reproductive techniques, procedures such as obtaining sperm directly from the testicle are performed by the urology clinic. The other specific disease group for men is erectile dysfunction (impotence) problems. All diagnosis and treatment procedures related to these diseases are carried out with the necessary care.

Pediatric Urology: Services that include the diagnosis and treatment of health problems such as urinary tract infections, stone diseases, urinary system anomalies and urinary disorders in children are provided.

Female urology: Urinary incontinence (stress and compression incontinence), interstitial cystitis treatments are performed with the most contemporary methods in today’s urology. Urodynamic tests performed within our department and surgical decisions made by interpreting the complaints of patients in the best way form the basis of our success in female urology.

Reconstructive Urology: Urethroplasty operation is successfully performed in the treatment of urethral stenosis. Adrenal Gland Diseases:
Surgical treatment is performed in adrenal gland diseases in cooperation with endocrinological diseases in one of us.

Service units in our unit;

Urodynamics Laboratory

Urodynamic examinations have become an indispensable part of urological applications. With standard evaluations, urodynamic studies are conducted for the diagnosis of unexplained bladder and urinary tract functional diseases. Our hospital’s urodynamics laboratory carries out examinations such as uroflowmetry, cystometry and pressure-flow study of patients sent from both in-hospital and other centers with a multi-channel and computer-aided device.

 Lithotripsy (ESWL) Unit

The stone breaking unit was put into service in 2002. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is the most commonly and safely used treatment method in the treatment of urinary system stones. Our stone breaking unit provides elective and emergency services to our patients. Stone breaking is performed under the supervision of a doctor and an ESWL nurse.

Prostate Biopsy Unit:

In our unit, ultrasound-guided, MR-guided prostate biopsy is performed with high success.

Operating Room

Like the surgeries of other surgical departments, urological surgeries are performed in the central operating room unit with advanced technical features. All surgeries (oncological, laparoscopic, endourological) in current urology applications are successfully performed by our clinic. In the central operating room, there is a special room belonging to the urology department where endourological surgeries (closed surgeries) are performed.

Adrenal gland surgery and reconstructive surgery of the urethra, which is performed by working together with endocrinology, anesthesia and indication of our unit, are among the main different services provided in the Urology clinic of Dokuz Eylul University.
